Online ADHD Test vs. ADHD Evaluation

A free online ADHD test is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Learn the difference and when it makes sense to get a full evaluation.

Search for "ADHD test" and you will find dozens of free quizzes. Some are useful. Some are not. None of them can diagnose ADHD on their own. Here is the difference between a test and an evaluation.

What an online ADHD test is

An online ADHD test is a screening tool. It asks a short list of questions about attention, restlessness, and impulsivity. The best ones, like the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS), were developed by researchers and are used by clinicians.

A screener answers one question: Is ADHD worth looking into?

What an ADHD evaluation is

An evaluation is done by a licensed clinician. It answers a different question: Do you have ADHD, and what will help?

A full evaluation includes:

  • Your history, including childhood
  • Validated questionnaires
  • Screening for anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and other conditions
  • Often, an objective cognitive test
  • A conversation with a clinician
  • A treatment plan

Wondering if it is ADHD? Start a same-day evaluation. Evaluations start at $195.

Why the difference matters

Many things can look like ADHD. Anxiety, depression, poor sleep, thyroid problems, trauma, and burnout can all cause trouble with focus. A quiz cannot tell those apart. A clinician can.

The reverse is also true. Some people with ADHD score low on quizzes because they have built strong coping habits, or because they compare themselves to other people with ADHD.

When to move from a test to an evaluation

Consider a full evaluation if:

  • You scored high on a screener
  • Focus problems have been with you since childhood
  • Symptoms affect your work, school, money, or relationships
  • You have tried harder and harder and still feel behind

The bottom line

An online test is a helpful first step. An evaluation is how you get real answers. At Anora, you can start with a free screening and move to a full evaluation, starting at $195, the same day.

Common questions

Are online ADHD tests accurate?+

Validated screeners like the ASRS can tell you whether ADHD is worth looking into. They are not designed to diagnose ADHD on their own.

I scored high on an online ADHD test. What now?+

A high score means a full evaluation is a good next step. A licensed clinician can confirm whether ADHD or something else explains your symptoms.
